A new third edition is contemplated, but has not yet been completed nor had a publication date been selected.
Due to current market conditions, final work on an updated and expanded edition of America's Classic Railroad Places has been postponed at least until the end of 2004.
This new third edition of ACRRP will be substantially expanded over the current second edition, including
I had initially planned to make small incremental changes to this work. However, this approach presented many logistical problems. For example even small additions of text to listings would result in changes to pagination, which would then cascade into the index, table of contents, and other areas. Additional pages would, in turn, result in small changes to my printing costs. Constantly changing prices would result in confusion and additional correspondence with purchases who had seen the original price listed with reviews in various publications.
In addition, two people communicating about listings in different versions of the same edition would face the possibility that the listings would have different content or be on different pages.
I have intended all along for this book to become one of the standard reference works for anyone interested in North American railroads. The excellent reception given to the current 2nd edition (the initial widely distributed version) by reviewers in the major railroad magazines shows that the book is headed in that direction.
I have already begun work on updating this book. However, completion of the work will take many months, dependent in part on working around my primary business of supplying photographs to a range of publishing and corporate clients.
The greatly expanded third edition will also bring with it an increase in price, most likely to the $29.95 per copy (without binder) retail level. However, most purchasers of the second edition have asked for more details, more listings, more illustrations.
Thank you for your interest.
