The project of systematically updating stock coverage of North Carolina, mentioned in previous newsletters, continues.
Here's a look at some recent additions:
New Book Project Focuses on Famous American Railroad Sites
I'm at the contract negotiation stage with a publisher on a book on famous North American railroad sites, tentatively entitled, A Geographical Dictionary of North American Railroad Locations.
[Additional information is also available on the Books selection in the Business section of this Web site.]
The book describes tunnels, bridges, and mountain passes, providing information about each on

The book, which will also include some of my photographs, will include between 150 and 200 site descriptions, many with illustrations. The book is tentatively scheduled for publication in 1998.
A few sample sites to be included are:

With the publisher's agreement, I'll post sample listings to my Web site once the book is closer to completion.
Recent Publication Credits
Here are a few examples of recent stock photo sales:
Computer Upgrade
If you've noticed a somewhat different look to my newsletter, this is at least partly the result of a major computer upgrade in early 1997.
[Obviously, most of the typography and layout used in the printed newsletter does not carry over to the HTML Web page format, which is designed to adapt to the size of the browser window.]
My new Pentium®/Windows95® computer not only runs faster but also has vastly more storage space, a much wider selection of fonts, and much new software. I can now provide large text files for projects in a number of additional formats, including on Iomega ZIP disks.
Plans for 1997-1998
The update of N.C. stock coverage is continuing. I also plan a return trip to the Powder River Basin of Wyoming within the next year.
New Descriptive Sheets
I now have new descriptive sheets on the following topics:
[These are available as Web pages in the Business section of this Web site.]
If you are interested in a copy of either of the above, please let me know. Copies are also available on my Web site at http://www.robl.w1.com
Web Page Skills
From recent projects, including work on my own Web site, I've developed considerable Web page skills. Take a look at my site.
If you're new to the World Wide Web or need extra help or advice on a Web project, give me a call. I have the tools to produce anything from single pages to complete sites.
Of course, I'm always particularly interested in projects that would draw on my photographic and writing skills or on my stock photo library, particularly in the areas of travel and transportation.
Railroads and Transportation
Transportation subjects have not been neglected during the past year.
In 1996, I made trips to California's Feather River Canyon and Washington state's Stampede Pass, both of which produced railroad stock photos.
Check my newly updated descriptive sheet on Railroad stock photo coverage for current developmentsand how my stock photo coverage can illustrate some of these developments.
Other coverage illustrates North Carolina's continuing efforts to expand passenger train options. This project had added considerable Amtrak material as well as North Carolina-specific shots and coverage specific to particular towns.
A New Web Site; a New E-Mail Address You can now visit my site on the World Wide Web at http://www.robl.w1.com. My new Web site includes not only the information I've provided over the years on descriptive sheets, but also text of previous newsletters, samples of my writing (and my Web page work), and sample color images. The Web site will provide much more frequent information than my newsletters can. I now also have a new electronic mail address: ehr@mindspring.com My old e-mail address, erobl@mcimail.com, will continue in effect for a brief period, as it is listed in a number of directories. However, please note that ehr@mindspring.com is now my preferred e-mail address. |
