010475 Golden Spike National Historic Site, Promontory, Utah. Much as dignitaries and railroad workers posed between locomotives of the Central Pacific and Union Pacific to celebrate the driving of the Golden Spike, marking the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad, a school group from Idaho poses between the two steamed-up replica locomotives. The site, administered by the National Park Service, commemorates the Golden Spike ceremony which took place on May 10, 1869, with operation of the replica locomotives.
