010869 Remote controlled mid-train locomotive on Union Pacific coal train descending toward Denver, Colo. These remote controlled locomotives are also called distributed power units, or DPUs. In addition to the engines on the front of the train and this mid-train unit, this train had two additional DPUs at the end of the train. DPUs help in both climbing and descending grades, helping to manage braking forces.
