050107 The addition of three newly built replica trolley cars in late 2004 has enabled the Charlotte (N.C.) Trolley operation to offer seven-day-a-week service on its rail corridor heading south from downtown Charlotte.

Here the view is from aboard replica trolley car 92 as it meets car 93 at the passing siding near the Park Ave. trolley stop.

Though the trolley cars operate at a lower speed and service frequency than the planned light rail system that will use the same corridor (but operate much further south than the present end of the line), the scheduled trolley service already provides the opportunity for residents of the south side of Charlotte to commute downtown without using their automobiles.

The Charlotte Trolley started as a volunteer effort to restore Charlotte's last surviving original trolley car. That car also remains available for operation. In addition, vintage cars from other locations are also being restored.
