010920 A westbound Union Pacific merchandise train emerges from tunnel 18 on Union Pacific's ex-Southern Pacific Moffat Route. The lead engine is wearing UP's newest winged version of its corporate emblem.

On the Moffat Route, trains climb some 4,000 feet from Denver, which is already a mile above sea level, to the Moffat Tunnel, which runs under the continental divide. To manage this grade, the train has three locomotives in front and a remote-controlled locomotive at its end.
