950904 Inaugural for North Carolina's "Piedmont" passenger train service on May 25, 1995. Then Gov. Jim Hunt assists Salisbury Mayor Margaret Kluttz (chair of the governor's rail task force) with smashing a bottle of champagne over the coupler of the final car of the inaugural train.
Ms. Kluttz was slightly cut by flying glass but still rode on the inaugural trip of the Raleigh-Charlotte-Raleigh train.
The Piedmont trains are operated by Amtrak with state-owned equipment (locomotives and coaches).
