930277 A northbound Triple Crown Services (TCS) RoadRailer train enters double track at Swann, N.C., just south of the North Carolina-Virginia state line. These trains operate between Atlanta and the Northeast on a regular schedule. At this location, the train, powered by a Conrail locomotive, is operating on Norfolk Southern rails.
TCS was an intermodal joint venture between Norfolk Southern (NS) and Conrail. When Norfolk Southern acquired its share of Conrail in the split of Conrail between NS and CSX, TCS became a fully owned subsidiary of Norfolk Southern. Even in pre-merger days, both NS and Conrail motive power regularly operated through from terminal to terminal on these trains.
