Now available from Ernest H. Robl:

Understanding Intermodal
A portable primer on today's multimodal
transportation equipment and systems

By Ernest H. Robl

From the author of the widely cited and linked to "The Intermodal Container FAQ" and The Basic Railfan Book, comes a new book that examines all types of intermodal traffic, from containers, to trailers, to RoadRailer® units.

Whether you are involved in the global marketplace and need to understand why intermodal transportation makes sense, or whether you just want to know more about freight transportation technology and how goods get from one part of the world to another, this is a book for you.

This book was produced largely in response to requests from the many visitors to the Intermodal Container FAQ page on my site. Many people, ranging from corporate trainers to college instructors, asked for a printed version of this extensive document. However, this book covers much more ground, going well beyond ISO containers. The book, organized differently from the original document, also examines the concepts behind each type of equipment.

A glossary covers important transportation and logistics terminology.

The book even looks at post 9/11 concerns about container security and what U.S. Customs is doing this area.
