771081 A class 4010 train set on one of the viaducts of the Semmering Line in Austria. The train is climbing toward the town of Semmering and the Semmering Tunnel.

These elegant trains were popular with the traveling public, but, because they were designed to operate as fixed consists with dedicated rolling stock, they proved inflexible for some applications in their later years.

The 4010 sets were bi-directional push-pull trains, with the 4010 power unit on one end and a class 6010 cab control car on the other end. Two trains could be coupled together and operate in multiple. In this case, the shorter power car is at left; the cab control car is at right.
