791556 Going-away view of class 93 locomotive 93.1422 during switching maneuvers at Krems, Austria. These 2-8-2T locomotives survived until the end of revenue steam in the mid 1970s because of their versatility. Though having a low top speed (60 km/h or 37 mph) because of its small drivers, it had good pulling power and operated equally well in either direction, making it ideal for service on non-electrified branch lines without engine turning facilities. The engine could handle both road service and switching in terminals.

Here the locomotive has been preserved for excursion train service.

The narrow but tall coal bunker provided good visibility to the rear while still carrying an adequate amount of coal for round trips from the engines' base. Tanks on either side of the boiler hold the engine's water supply.
