In December, 2000, Amtrak begins Acela Express service between Washington, D.C., and Boston, Mass., via New York city, bringing the first true high speed passenger rail service to the United States.

001363 While not directly part of the Acela Express high speed service, Amtrak's turboliners used in upstate New York service have been rebuilt and painted in a scheme that matches that of the Acela trains.
