Salzburg ...

... is the city of Mozart's birth and The Sound of Music. Though most Americans know the city from the musical film, the city identifies itself most closely with the early years of Mozart. It's difficult to go far within downtown Salzburg and not encounter something related to Mozart or something named after Mozart, even if the relationship is tenuous at best.

Salzburg will be in the spotlight in 2006 as Austria celebrates the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth. So, in Salzburg, where the image of Mozart is already seen everywhere, it will gain even more attention.
