030397 Charlotte (N.C.) Trolley right of way. The heritage trolley is operating on a former freight rail line that has been upgraded to contemporary light rail standards in anticipation of future light rail commuter service on this south corridor line.

The line has been completely rebuilt with concrete ties and welded rail, as well as modern crossings for streets. Charlotte's downtown skyline is visible in the distance.

Operation of the trolley and the anticipation of light rail service has already drawn considerable economic development along this corridor.

The heritage trolley operation will continue to operate when light rail service begins, sharing the same tracks. At that point, the line will be double-tracked.
