030746 Container being driven away from a container ship calling at the North Carolina State Port at Wilmington, N.C. The container is on a chassis for movement to a holding area where a drayage contractor will pick it up for delivery to its final destination. The chassis is being pulled by a yard tractor, specifically designed for high visibility in terminal operations. Yard tractors are not suitable for highway operations.
The vessel being unloaded is the Delaware Bridge from the K-line (Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha), a Japanese firm. However, due to vessel sharing agreements with other container lines, many of the containers on this vessel belong to other container lines.
The Delaware Bridge provides service between North Carolina and ports in the Far East, traveling through the Panama Canal. At Wilmington, the vessel handles both import and export containers.
