05143 Sign on main road leading to N.C. Global TransPark. The TransPark is a special-purpose business park built around the Kinston regional airport. The TransPark had been highly controversial because, up to May of 2008, it had failed to meet expectations of its designers and had attracted only a handful of tenants. In 2008, park officials announced that Spirit AeroSystems of Kansas, a major manufacturer of aircraft subassemblies, would locate a large plant at the site and employ more than a thousand workers. Manufacturing operations are expected to begin by 2010.
