Return to the retail order form.
Hello. Thank you for your interest. This page provides additional information for ordering retail items from me from countries other than the United States. Pleae read the information below carefully.
For international orders, two additional factors apply:
I'll provide options in both areas below, after first reviewing my basic policies.
My current policy is that I require payment (check or money order) with all retail orders. I do not accept credit cards.
I regret any inconvenience caused by my not accepting credit cards. However, as my primary business is providing photography and writing to publishers, I simply do not do enough retail business to make the fees and additional paperwork associated with credit cards worth-while.
My reason for requiring payment with an order is to simplify paperwork and bookkeeping. My self-published books and other retail items have small profit margins, and, to keep their production viable, I need to keep the processing of all transactions as simple as possible. I have been selling books that I authored or edited this way for about three decades without any problems.
I do accept purchase orders from major established businesses or major educational institutions, particularly for bulk orders. (Invoices must be paid within 30 days.) For additional information on bulk orders, click here.
My recommended form of shipping for international orders is "Global Priority Mail." Global Priority Mail should arrive anywhere in the world within about two weeks.
The U.S. Postal service no longer accepts any surface parcel post shipments to locations overseas, so this type of shipment is no longer an option.
My current base shipping & handling fee (which covers not only actual postage, but the cost of packaging, labeling, and preparing the shipment) is $4.05 for the first book, $2.05 for the second book; and $1.05 for any additional copies or books.
For shipments to Europe or Canada, you have two basic choices:
- If you want the book sent Global Priority Mail rate you will need to add an additional S&H fee, as outlined below. (First, calculate the standard fee, based on the number of books/copies; then add the fees below.)
| Destination | Additional fee |
| Europe & Australia (and most countries other than Canada) | +$12.00 |
| Canada | +$7.00 |
Please note these fees are in addition to the base S&H fees applicable to a particular shipment.
The above rates apply to all books except my photo workshop book, Getting Serious About Photography. This book is in a larger format than my other books. The smaller books will fit into a small flat-rate priority mail box offered by the postal service with reduced rates.
(First compute the regular shipping and handling cost, based on the number of books ordered, then add the above fee one time for each shipment.)
- I can also ship your order by first class mail. This is the best option if you order my photo workshop book Getting Serious About Photography (with or without any additional books.) However, For multiple books, the postage will be in the $20+ range. If you select this option, please contact me first for specific shipping and handling fees.
Please note that I am not happy with the current lack of options, but these are all that are available.
Please note that recipients are responsible for any customs fees that may be assessed in the destination countries.
My preferred form of payment is a check or money order in U.S. funds. However, I realize that this may be a problem in some countries. So, I will accept either of the following:
- Payment in U.S. funds, typically no problem for Canadians, as Canadian banks will issue checks payable in U.S. funds for modest fees.
- A check in the currency of a major European country, such as Euros or U.K. pounds.
My bank will accept and convert these checks for a modest fee. However, if you pay in a currency other than U.S. dollars, please add a $3.00 conversion fee to the total costs before converting to your currency.
In other words, calculate the total cost of the merchandise, the total shipping and handling (figuring in the addition international fees outlined above) then, to that total add the $3.00 conversion fee and, using currently published exchange rates, calculate the payment in your currency.
I hope the above information is useful. I appreciate your interest in my work and want to make it as accessible as possible.
If you have questions please contact me for further informationby e-mail (ehr@mindspring.com) if possible.
If you have access to a computer, please use of the printable retail order form on my Web site will simplify your ordering process. [rev. 2009/12/24]
